Picture Book

Will you read with me? Picture books compose the majority of books marketed to children but they can be very confusing for parents to tell apart from “Easy Reader” books. These books have (what else) pictures throughout them but with substantially more text and often have foreign words, non-phonetically-based words, or upper level vocabulary.

If you open a book and see large illustrations with paragraphs you are probably looking at a picture book. Although a beginning reader is not likely to be able to read these books by themselves, it is a good opportunity for a parent, mentor, or guardian to spend time reading with a child and be involved with their reading. Ages seven to ten are the most likely to enjoy reading these books on their own.
